USEFUL TIPS: PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN VALENCIA

Using the metro and tram in Valencia.

Valencia’s metro, locally known as Metrovalencia, is the underground metro system in the city. It is an economical way to travel within the city centre and the suburbs.

Metro Lines

You will find 6 metro lines (Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9) and 3 tram lines (4, 6, 8) divided between 4 fare zones (A, B, C, and D). Each line will take you in different directions, so it’s best to check the map. I meanly use just the zone A, because it was enough for the citycenter, beach, school. In the other hand if u want to go to the airport it is necesary the D.

The metro is open from 04:00 - 23:30 p.m. on weekdays and 05:00 - 00:30 a.m. on weekends.

Getting your metro ticket

One of the best things about using the public transport system in Valencia is that the different systems has combination with each other.

If you want to use the metro or tram, you can purchase a ticket or a card with a subscription plan at any tobacco shop, using card or cash or at the stops you can buy a travel card from the machine, which costs 1 euro but it can be topped up several times afterwards. There is a lot of flexibility depending on your needs.

Single journey

A single journey ticket is best for a one-way journey.

€1.50    1 zone
€2.10    2 zones
€2.80    3 zones
€3.90    4 zones

10 journey ticket

The 10 journey ticket, is the best if you plan to travel a few times as it will be cheaper than a single ticket.

Cost      Zones travelled

€7.60    1 zone
€11.00   2 zones
€14.70   3 zones
€21.00   4 zones

TuiN Card

If you plan on staying in Valencia for a long time, then the TuiN card is the perfect. You can travel throughout the Metrovalencia network which includes the metro and tram.

(I also wanted to buy this but it requires a follow-up and have to fill out papers, so I bought the 10 journey tickets.)

Cost      Zones travelled

€0.72    1 zone
€1.04    2 zones
€1.40    3 zones
€2.00    4 zones

Taking a bus in Valencia

Honestly, I mostly used the metro or tram. However, when I needed it, I bought a ticket from the bus driver. Many times we can take the bus to more places where the metro or tram doesn’t work, but I prefer the trams, because it is more convenient.

Bus service hours

Buses in Valencia run from 04:00 in the morning until 10:30 at night. After 10:30 p.m. you can take the night bus. These run until 02:00 a.m on weekdays and until 03:30 a.m. on weekends.
