Feliz Navidad o Reyes Magos?

Christmas is the rebirth of Jesus in every Christian life. But what does it mean to the common people? Spending a lot of money on unnecessary things, a lot of food that could have been eaten all year round, we all eat it in 3 days. Based on a Western pattern, we love our neighbor for 3 days, and then everything can goes back the normal way. Santa brings the gift somewhere at Christmas, in Hungary he shows up on December 6, and at Christmas, Jesus also delights us. But what happens in December in Spain while we wait for Santa and Jesus? In the whole December, the shops make a more and more beautiful showcase with nativity scene. In Spain not the christmas tree is the most important thing in christmas, but rather the meaning of Bethlehem. From December 21-22 until January 8, children can enjoy the winter break and the inactivity that goes with it , during which time they can chase their parents crazy in a better way. Spanish traditions are a little different than home, when it comes to Christmas. On the 24th, the family plays the main role, the preparation of delicious seafood can be debated  at the dinner table in the evening. Moreover the main day of Christmas is not Christmas Eve like here, but January 6th. Although Papa Noel / Santa Claus will also arrive on the 25th, the more important toys will only arrive with the Three Kings at the end of the winter break.

The Spaniards are considered to be very friendly and familyoriented, so everyone dresses up for Christmas lunch. The housewives put the most delicious food on the table, while the great grandmothers grumble that their daughter didn’t make the crayfish salad well, indicating that they are the real bosses in the family.

Families are prepared differently for the arrival of the Three Kings, as well as for the coming of Santa. Someone puts water to the balcony to the thirsty camels, there are families who, with a clatter and a loud noise, let them know where they are, that the Kings will find them in the big fog. If children are bad, they will get coal in Spain instead of stick. At Christmas, the crowd pours into the streets, and as they walk through the streets, the Three Kings distribute candys to the children, while the others eat Roscón de Reyes, a round cake, which is very sweet. Another national event on December 22 is the big Christmas lottery draw, which spans an entire day. Because the coupons are very expensive, they are bought by companies and employees can buy it for € 20 and distribute the reward on a pro rata basis. In fact, the series of Christmas celebrations begins on this day.

I took pictures of the Plaça de L'ajuntament, where the Christmas decorations are already standing. The other day, we even tried ice skating at 15 degrees.
