The Las Fallas Fiesta is a traditional spring greeting program that was held in September just because of the virus, right on the first night of my trip. This gave me the opportunity to participate in it. It is customary to burn colored, huge pieces of paper and plastic figures on all the streets of the city center, collectively called ninots. The figures can not only be fairy-tale, but can also shape political figures and soap opera heroes.
Being environmentally conscious, my only concern is the pollution that is high at this event.
"The origin of Las Fallas comes from the old carpenter’s tradition who, when celebrating the arrival of spring on 19th March, used to burn pieces of wood (parots) that were used to prop up their lights during the winter. (...) The Fallas celebrations have evolved into temporary works of art which, in some cases, cost millions of euros."(www.visitvalencia.com)
As the attached pictures show, tourists really enjoy the show...
